Francisco Garcia was recently named Planning Director of the City of Miami. He had previously worked in the city as Zoning Administrator, where he was known for standing up and fighting against a controversial condo tower that would illegally impeded on a single family home. Although the move showed his integrity, it unfortunately cost him his job. Nevertheless, Garcia moved into private sector working with renowned architects and planners at Duany Plater Zyberk, where he was project manager for Miami 21, which passed earlier this year. He was later chosen by Chad Oppenheim to join his firm as Director of Planning and Urban Design. With former director Ana Gelabert-Sanchez retiring, Garcia now returns to the city as her replacement.
