Our good friend Luis snapped some photographs of this installation up in New York City this past weekend, which just so happen to be Valentine’s Day. Each year the Times Square Alliance and the The Architecture League of New York City invite designers to come up with the Valentine’s Day Heart installation. Firms such as BIG, Young Projects, and numerous others have won this competition, but this year’s was won by a young duo called Stereotank. We’re showing off their work today, because Stereotank was one of our finalists for our second Design / Build competition. The team is made up of Marcelo Ertorteguy and Sara Valente, who graduated from the School of Architecture and Urbanism of The Universidad Central de Venezuela in 2005. After conducting a design studio about the common territories between architecture and music at the same school, they moved to New York to pursue a Master of Science in Advanced Architectural Design from Columbia University graduating with honors in 2007. They currently live and work in NYC as architects and simultaneously develop a research about the relationships between space and sound through the design and construction of inhabitable sound instruments and installations.
These photos show off their built work in action, and we were just fortunate enough to catch a wedding happening that day. We are also showing the video that they turned in for their DawnTown project, check it out. Great work guys!
